Chancay Port Adds Another New Feeder Service! COSCO Shipping Holdings’ CHX3 Connects Northern Peru with Costa Rica, Further Strengthening Its Hub Network in West South America.

COSCO Shipping Holdings is further enhancing its regional shipping network centered on the Port of Chancay in Peru. On July 12, local time, COSCO Shipping officially launched the CHX3 (Chancay Express Service 3) feeder service, establishing regular weekly sailings among the ports of Paita and Chancay in Peru and Caldera in Costa Rica. With Chancay serving as the core transshipment hub, this new service represents a key initiative to deepen the company’s presence on the West Coast of South America, aiming to strengthen port connectivity within the region and support the development of trade corridors between Peru and Costa Rica.

Paita now connects directly to Chancay, opening a new export corridor for agricultural products from northern Peru.
As a key container and cold-chain hub in northern Peru, the Port of Paita serves major industrial regions including Piura, Lambayeque, and Cajamarca, supporting diverse export sectors such as agricultural products, seafood processing, minerals, and textiles. Northern Peru is a leading producer of high‑quality fruits and seafood in South America, with strong export demand for avocados, grapes, mangoes, blueberries, and a wide range of seafood products. These goods place stringent demands on transit times, cold-chain logistics, schedule reliability, and transshipment efficiency.

The launch of the CHX3 branch line enables export shipments from the aforementioned regions to reach the Port of Chancay directly, connecting seamlessly to long-haul routes bound for Asia. This significantly shortens the overall transit time and reduces comprehensive logistics costs, including land transportation, warehousing, and container demurrage. For fresh‑produce cold‑chain goods such as avocados, grapes, and seafood, the branch line offers more reliable temperature‑controlled transport and shorter transshipment windows, helping to enhance export quality and delivery reliability. Peruvian fruit exporters note that the new service has substantially shortened the end-to-end journey from origin to Asian markets, mitigating cargo‑damage risks at intermediate stages and lowering multi‑leg handling costs, thereby providing a more competitive logistics pathway for local agricultural products seeking to expand into Asian markets.

Qiankai’s network has expanded into Costa Rica, with its regional service radius continuing to grow.
Meanwhile, the CHX3 branch line has been further extended to the Port of Caldera on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. As a key Pacific‑coast port, Caldera serves as one of the country’s major maritime gateways to Asian markets, handling containerized cargo, agricultural products, automobiles, grain, fertilizers, and general merchandise. With the launch of this new branch service, goods destined for Caldera can connect via the Port of Chancay to China and other long‑haul Asian trunk routes, providing local importers and exporters with an additional transshipment option. Compared with the existing route, this new link will significantly reduce overall logistics lead times, enhance schedule reliability and delivery certainty, and further improve customer service quality.

Goods from northern Peru and Costa Rica can be consolidated at the Port of Chancay via regional feeder services, then connected to COSCO Shipping’s trans-Pacific deep-sea trunk routes to China and other Asian markets. The launch of CHX3 has further expanded the Port of Chancay’s regional service radius and provided Peruvian and Costa Rican exporters with a more reliable and efficient logistics corridor to Asia.

Deeply cultivate hub development and refine a comprehensive, end-to-end support service system.
From launching direct sailings to China from Chancay to continuously strengthening its feeder network along the South American west coast and in Central America, COSCO Shipping Holdings is transforming Chancay Port’s deep-water terminal, long-haul trunk‑line services, and regional transshipment advantages into a more comprehensive suite of shipping and supply-chain capabilities. The company stated that it will continue to deepen hub‑building around Chancay Port and iteratively refine its end-to-end supporting service system. For agricultural products with distinct seasonal peaks, stable weekly sailings offer significant value: during peak marketing periods, demand for refrigerated containers, cargo space, and vessel schedules surges for commodities such as avocados, grapes, and blueberries, and CHX3 helps local businesses better plan their shipments. At the same time, in response to differentiated needs—such as seasonal agricultural exports and bulk mineral transport—the company will keep providing reliable schedule guarantees and tailored logistics solutions, further bolstering channel resilience and supporting deeper, more substantive China–Peru economic and trade cooperation.
